Total Visitor Count:
This website is the result of completing the “Cloud Resume Challenge,” a project from my Networking & Cloud Computing class at LMU. The challenge involved building the site from scratch, including hosting, DNS, and JavaScript. I used AWS services extensively, starting with S3 for storing the website's data, and registered my domain, www.grahamolson.com, with Namecheap. AWS Route 53 resolves the domain to an IP address, working alongside CloudFront to speed up load times via Amazon Edge locations.
To track visitors, I implemented a Python-based Lambda function that increments a counter stored in DynamoDB every time the site is accessed. Displaying the visitor count involves pulling the data from DynamoDB using Amazon’s API.
The process was challenging but rewarding. A major issue arose from having different AWS hosting locations for Lambda and DynamoDB, which delayed my project. However, this taught me valuable troubleshooting skills and the importance of double-checking configurations. This project deepened my understanding of AWS services, web infrastructure, and HTML, and sparked my interest in potentially working at AWS in the future.
